- Open Red Button Quit. Its icon appears in the menu bar.

Common questions
Why did the app stay open?
Red Button Quit acts only when it recognizes a safe close. Another window, a minimized window, full screen, a save alert, a disabled app, or an unusual window layout can leave the app's normal behavior unchanged.
Which apps work?
The Direct edition works with many regular Mac apps that expose standard windows, including native and cross-platform apps. Finder, system processes, background-only utilities, and apps with unusual window behavior are left unchanged. Compatibility is broad, but no utility can safely guarantee every app.
What is the difference between Direct and App Store editions?
The Direct edition uses macOS Accessibility access for broader app compatibility. The sandboxed App Store edition uses a smaller verified catalog and stricter window detection. Both request a normal quit and preserve save alerts.
Will Red Button Quit discard unsaved work?
No. It sends the app's normal Quit command. The app's own save and cancellation alerts remain in control.
How do I check permission?
For the Direct edition, open System Settings, choose Privacy & Security, then Accessibility. Make sure Red Button Quit is enabled. Return to the menu bar and choose Enable once.
Why is an app marked Not Verified?
It has not completed the full Red Button Quit compatibility test. It stays off until you choose to try it, and all one-window safety checks still apply.
Does Red Button Quit collect data?
No. The app has no analytics, tracking, advertising, accounts, or network communication. Read the privacy policy for details.
